This is a great observation, and sorely needed given the downstream effects of liberal non-patriotism, e.g. this: https://themissingdatadepot.substack.com/p/the-militarys-white-democrat-problem

As it happens, I also live in the DC suburbs and agree heartily that patriotism (and church attendance, for that matter) isn't seen as something for conservatives alone. Our small city has the largest Independence Day parade in Virginia, and people of all political stripes come out to watch it.

Absolutely phenomenal piece. Thank you for writing it.

This is a fantastic article. The examples chosen are well conceived analogies. I feel the same way amongst (native born) people in my blue state.

If I met a patriotic Korean vacationing here I would never chide them about economic or gender inequality in South Korea. Yet progressives expect me as an American to qualify my patriotism, while condemning me for all the moral boogeymen of the past I was never alive for.

More than that, any such qualification will not suffice for them, and no amount of lightbulbs or airplanes or civil rights will make it acceptable in their eyes to rep the USA. Its defined only by its faults, even as they live enjoying the fruits of our moral and technological advancements.

This is why I have lately become brash and brazen about my US patriotism. I know more about the Mexican-American war than those who want to use it to castigate my country. I know more about various Indian Wars than those who talk about “land back now”. I know more about foreign nations than progressives who want to paint the world outside our borders like a utopia. I know more about the presidents that they want to demonize. So why should I be shy about loving my country when the truth is on my side. The Self-Evident Truths more than anything are my article of faith, and of course Im going to celebrate 1776 and its profundity on the world.

As my blue state has radicalized against patriotism, I have half-wittingly been the equal and opposite reaction, defending my country’s honor every day.

They cant catch me in a lie because

Progs aren’t patriotic. Period. They can pretend all they want with creative bs, but they hate America. They hate everything. It’s why I could never be a Dem: I haven’t got enough hate in me.

They hate men (obv), women (so much that they can’t define one as they destroy women’s & girl’s sports), children (they don’t have any), the open road (why they cluster in cities), small towns (they can’t hide), success (envious of the hard work they refuse), minorities (useful as voters but where are the worst economies, job prospects, schools & crime? Inner cities), and on & on til you reach the country. They just hate. It’s all they’ve got.

Last year, Pride coincided with the Queen’s Jubilee (celebrating 70 years of rule) and I noted a similar divide. Cities were covered in rainbow flags, and little villages, British ones. I think perhaps it’s the nature of things, and not particularly problematic. An entire country united is perhaps, not a good thing.
